"Degrowth economy" primarily aims to reduce economic growth by downscaling production and consumption. Proponents of degrowth economy advocates for a new direction for society, where societies will use fewer natural resources in place of more self-sufficient initiatives (e.g. growing and farming food locally, voluntary reductions in consumer spending, etc.) and for the prioritization of social and ecological well-being instead of profits (e.g. prioritization of less emission-intense industries, heavy taxes or limits on emissions, shorter work weeks, etc.).
